Volume 10, Issue 49
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14 ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those
on whom his favor rests.’
Luke 2: 13-14
Common sense in a vacuum of prideful intellectual thought challenges the premise of the existence of God. Atheist elites, confident in their own powers of reasoning, cannot see beyond the natural to the spiritual. In the absence of total perspective, such philosophers, through discursive reasoning, reject the concept of spirituality. Religion, in their opinion, is either a crutch for an individual to face circumstances of life without discipline or a tool used by unscrupulous leaders to hold a people captive or a nation distracted.
In the mirror of this abridged logic, common sense appears to be the only dependable truth. “Common sense is not faith, and faith is not common sense. They stand in the relation of the natural and the spiritual.” (Oswald Chambers)
If, in fact, the miracle of Christ’s life is not true, then accepting that the fallacy of the story would not have been exposed in the last 2,000 years is giving mankind little credit. Neither the Greek gods nor the Roman gods lasted that long before being exposed as fraudulent. Fables of this system of things, originated by mankind, have always run their course, confirmed as myth.
Christianity stands intact today having survived all secular attacks. Therefore, to reject that Christ is who He said He was defies the logic process of common sense. Common sense would dictate that each of us should at least consider the reality that Christ was the Son of God.
The one dispensation benefit of God that distinguishes mankind from all other creatures is the gift of free will. Free will determines how an individual defines independence. Intellectuals use common sense to come to the conclusion that a person can be independent within and of themselves. God wants us to use our free will to trust in Him, and therefore strengthen our independence through unity in Him.
Counterintuitive to common sense?.…yes…yet truth by faith.
The purpose of this system of things is for God to teach humanity and for humanity to learn by experience the common sense of process of managing free will into dependent perfect faith.
Does it take 6,000-plus years for humanity to learn this lesson?...well, yes. It is amazing how many things mankind will try to find peace in society before yielding to dependence on God.
The logic advanced by intellects is itself a myth.
If factual circumstances support the analysis that the only answer to an existential question is spiritual, then faith is common sense.
The fourth week of Advent is the final week of the Christmas season in preparation to receive and accept the hope manifested by the birth of Christ. Realizing this hope is the result of exercising one’s free will to believe.
In Preparing for the Peace of the Lord in the Midst of Common Sense, rely upon your intuition of the natural that Christ is the answer to peace within your soul.
Believe in the Word of the Lord. Have faith in His promise:
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you…do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not be afraid.”
John 14:27
