Most place such a bet based on a whim. Ignorance is their reference. Their commitment to the success of the process’ outcome is not serious.
The same analogy could be applied to certain citizens and their approach to politics.
The Political Horserace Today
In a thoroughbred horse race, the power of each horse, acting independently, directed by a jockey, plays out in the overall outcome of the race. Horses leverage off each other’s moves and positioning. The goal is to finish ahead of all rivals.
Political activists adhere to the same strategy.
In politics today there are three forces with distinct leadership, moving independently, yet leveraging off each other to advance a general ideology. Current events are the conditions of the track on which each force operates.
The Political Trifecta
China vs. The United States. China is in direct competition with America for control of the world’s economic system. This is not competition for the efficient production of goods and services. This is a competition for the operating systems of governments in the world. China is a communistic country. Their mantra is total control of the people in every aspect of their lives for the good of the government’s objectives.
The United States believes that government’s purpose is to serve the people in their own desires for family values, individual rights, and economic decisions.
The Chinese currency, the Yuan, is untradeable pursuant to a free-floating exchange rate. A communist banking system is incompatible with western banking principles. China is expanding its foreign trade by buying its way into the physical structure of developing countries. The cost of their relationships is onerous debt and slavery by entanglements.
The United States pursues economic development with foreign partners through democracy, reasonable debt, and a respect for individual rights.
Progressives vs. Conservatives. In America, citizens are as divided today on political theory as at any time in our history. The eulogy of Senator John McCain was an eloquent calling for unity and respect for diverse opinions. The Senate hearings on the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Kavanaugh yesterday immediately digressed into a political circus. The opening session with Judge Kavanaugh’s wife and children sitting on the front row began with accusations and recriminations by party leaders. Progressives would not even allow a simple ceremonial introduction of the constitutional process admired by the world for the confirmation of a Supreme Court Justice.
There is no question about Judge Kavanaugh’s qualifications. He is qualified to serve as a Supreme Court Justice. The only question to be answered is whether or not he believes in balance between government oversight and individual liberty.
Billionaires vs. Billionaires. The press has presented much in recent months about Charles Koch and his efforts to influence elections. Less has been said about George Soros and his worldwide efforts to advance liberal causes. Most recently, in the Florida primary for Governor, an avowed socialist mayor from Tallahassee, Andrew Gillum was the upset victor. He was supported with substantial TV ads provided by George Soros. This is one of the few times that Mr. Soros has been so obvious in his activity.
I understand Charles Koch’s political philosophy. He is for less government. When government must be involved in a social program the government should be disciplined to stay focused. All programs should be measured for value. Accountability of government is critical.
I have never understood George Soros’ worldview. He appears to be in support of government authority. Accountability is not an objective. Total government control is the objective. Why else would he support a socialist that is untested over a proven progressive establishment alternative?
The common competition, between adverse forces, is driven by opposite and irreconcilable ideologies. One philosophy believes that government is the ultimate authority in rule over the people, necessary in its power to dictate standards in order to achieve societal equality. This ideology purports that government is superior. The people are to submit.
The alternative philosophy believes that the people are the ultimate authority fueled by inalienable rights for the pursuit of happiness. And in that self-determination, in an environment of freedom, societal equality is best objectively achieved. This ideology advances the call of a greater purpose than oneself. The people are superior to the government. The government exists to facilitate the people’s rights.
The forces of “government is superior” are relentless. When their cause is challenged they attack the system. Even democracy itself is called into question when the electorate does not render the desired political results. This is the basis of the intense acrimony produced by the hearings for the confirmation of a Supreme Court Justice. Progressives are determined to rule, if not by democracy, then by the courts.
Make no mistake. Those who believe in government as the final source of all solutions will sacrifice all freedom for the cause of the dictated collective standard.
We are all living in a world wherein the war of ideologies pressures our communities, our families, and our individual lives. To participate in this great political competition one only has to remember one axiom. One’s opinion loudly and consistently voiced does impact the outcome of the political horserace.
We must all choose our cause and our candidates wisely when betting the political trifecta. The forces upon which we bet in the political horse race will forever be measured in the race's outcome by the generations. Stand firmly in convictions. One's commitment to principle will aid the horse and the jockey representing one's beliefs in the race.
Amid all the controversy and political chaos remember this simple great truth: in the political horserace no “government is superior” horse can win unless the United States withdraws from the race. The United States forever changed the equation of competing political forces in 1789 with the emphasis of first words of the Constitution of the United States of America: We the people.
In that commitment by the founding fathers to individual liberty and the concept of inalienable rights, the government of the United States of America was established.
May we never yield or submit to those horses in the political race who seek to eliminate the people's superiority over government.
For the ethos of the United States is based on the wisdom and understanding that God is sovereign over man and man is sovereign over government.
