Volume 10, Issue 10
President Zelenskyy has shown incredible courage in the face of Russian brutality. President Putin expected him to abdicate his Presidency and flee to Poland. His willingness to stand with his people in defense of independence and freedom has surprised Putin and encouraged the world.
You never know who, in a crisis, will stand firm on the courage of convictions.
President Putin has never declared that his intention of expansionism stopped with Ukraine. He demands that Ukraine adopt a constitutional provision that Ukraine will never become a member of the EU or NATO. Putin’s stipulation should be coupled with his own commitment never to attack Europe or a member of NATO.
It is time for the United States to decide and declare exactly what it will do if Putin threatens another country beyond Ukraine. Denying the security of a no-fly zone ensures that Russia will defeat Ukraine. Putin is not beyond the horrific action of carpet-bombing cities into submission. If Ukraine falls, Russian controlled territory is on the border of Poland, a NATO member.
If Putin threatens use of tactical nuclear weapons, America must decide as a nation how it will respond to such diabolical madness. The United States must be prepared to confront him now in Ukraine.
Allowing Hitler to invade Poland, without confronting the German blitzkrieg at the point of its first foray, permitted Hitler to broaden his war effort until initial containment of the German war machine was impossible.
In 1939, while allied leaders projected timidity, Hitler sensed the lack of will to stand on conviction. No plans were pursued by Europe to take into consideration the possibility that Hitler was insane and war was his objective.
Winston Churchill was so convinced that war was inevitable, he began, while in government exile, to make plans on his own for his nation’s survival. He actually sent his own informants into Germany to obtain an accurate count of planes, tanks, and infantry. When war was declared, Churchill had a better analysis of Hitler’s capabilities than the British War Department.
There were two reasons the English population didn’t panic immediately. One was because of the fortitude of their character to present a stiff upper lip. And the other was because they were confident that Churchill had a plan.
The United States must now set a plan in place for Putin to clearly understand exactly what we intend to do if he continues to threaten peaceful countries.
The United States and its allied partners should establish a no-fly zone in the western region of Ukraine to include Lviv. The U.S. has been asked by the sovereign government of Ukraine to create a no-fly zone. The U.S. has every right to operate there. Russian troops do not currently occupy, nor are they engaged in that part of the country.
Ukraine will fall without allied air support. This is a given. When the Ukrainian government collapses, a new fly zone will immediately be established for all surrounding countries. Why not establish it in Ukraine and provide a buffer? Putin will then have to make the decision to confront allied forces. If his intention is nuclear war, we may as well find it out right now. There is no need to wait for him to invade Lithuania.
China has indicated it will support Russia economically, financially, and militarily in its aggression against the West. The United States should take immediate steps to prepare for a lengthy economic cold war.
One hundred forty-three member countries of the United Nations voted against the Russian aggression into Ukraine. The United States should organize every single one of those countries into a new trade alliance in opposition to Russia and China. In so doing, the world can then be economically restructured to reestablish supply chains, reduce inflation, and care for the general common good. Isolated with their partners, Russia and China will collapse economically.
Strategic steps for this new alliance include:
- Commit to a plan for energy independence. It begins with buying American oil from American producers.
- Secure an inventory of computer chips necessary to support all U.S. manufacturing. Intel has broken ground on a new plant. It will be two years before it comes online. Defense of Taiwan as a major supplier of computer chips to the West now becomes paramount. China must never doubt this.
- Provide for all pharmaceuticals and critical medicines necessary to support healthcare in the United States.
- Identify, reinforce, or restructure all supply chains for manufacturing and agricultural output.
- Congress must pass a balanced budget to fight inflation and, in so doing, call on all Americans to sacrifice for the good of their country. No programs for the needy or poor need to be cut. The federal bureaucracy should commit to a 10% reduction of its workforce as a sign of good faith to the general public.
- Congress must structure and pass meaningful immigration reform. This is not for the purpose of keeping immigrants out of our country. They are to be welcomed in these times. However, the borders should be secured to stop drug trafficking and terrorist infiltration. We owe it to the world, as a country of immigrants, to welcome the teeming masses in what could be a dark time. We owe it to ourselves to secure the borders for our own safety.
- And last, the American government must just tell the American people the truth. Be transparent on the situation. Be honest about what is required. And have faith that the remnant energy of 1776 will emerge amplified.
By taking these steps, we call Putin’s bluff and measure his ambition. We confront his aggression and stand ready to defy him, along with China, if their intentions are to destroy the West’s way of life.
We must believe as Churchill did. If war comes, we will meet it as a nation. For freedom is worth defending at all costs. Life existing under totalitarianism is death by another dimension.
President Zelenskyy’s address to Congress today was also an address to President Joe Biden. He acknowledged the United States as the defender of the free world. He then closed by asking President Biden to “defend peace.”
Defending peace is not "suing for peace". Surrender is not an option. Defending peace requires acting on America’s courage of convictions. Let this be the time that, as a people, our confidence and faith in righteousness is our resolve in the face of evil…
And our strength in the knowledge of truth.
