Volume 8, Issue 31
The German nighttime bombings continued until June of 1941 targeting mainly civilian populations indiscriminately. These air raids, known as the Blitz, were a reign of terror upon English citizens. To Hitler’s amazement, both bombing crusades of warfare failed to break the will of the English population. Why?
Because they understood and were committed to The Terms of War.
Winston Churchill was a master at communicating eternal ideals and principles to his nation. He understood that, to withstand an all-out assault, a society must be unified in acceptance of cultural purpose. A dignity of destiny vision is an essential emotional mindset of a people. Believing in an order ordained as righteous is the spiritual fuel that drives a civilization to stand for a cause at all costs.
The strategic disposition to survive the trauma and tribulation of disruption and uncertainty involved three simple elements. First, priorities were set. At the risk of loss of life, essential activities were maintained. Even during the bombings, necessary services, businesses, manufacturing activities, health care and education persisted. Second, sacrifice was shared. Everyone had a role. Everyone contributed. Everyone took some risk. Everyone supported the war effort. Last, every citizen was committed to a universal national identity.
Hitler’s Nazi government did not just pose a threat of an evil dictatorship. A German victory in World War II meant a mutiny against the natural senses of decency. Nazi philosophy was based upon intolerant racism representing an anathema to a civil society. Such monstrous intentions would have brought about the construct of an unacceptable new world order.
America finds itself today in need of learning the lessons of the English strategic societal plan in World War II.
The United States is under all-out assault from a pandemic that challenges the very foundations of our society. This virus, combined with economic challenges from China, military challenges from Russia, and cultural religious challenges from Iran, presents composite threats to our way of life.
We cannot recast the past. By government Executive Order at the federal, state and local level, the economy was shut down. The second quarter realized a 32.5% decline of GDP on an annualized basis. The economy cannot survive another complete closing.
The coronavirus now has become controversial. The President and national scientists are in disagreement as to the extent of its threat. Shutting down the economy again will result in irreparable harm to a minimum of 20% of all small businesses in the country. Before the President, Congress, or governors take any future action, a plan of purpose must be communicated to the entire country. Every citizen must understand and be in agreement with the priorities, joint sacrifice, and commitment to a universal national identity.
Any dissention for the ultimate goals and objectives of our society will leave us vulnerable and susceptible to economic restructuring, leading us into the trap of socialism and Marxism. America cannot outperform China as the manager of a controlled economy. The Chinese population is conditioned to do exactly as they are told. Freedom, individual pursuit of happiness, and most importantly, determining their own family values, are not a reality they expect or embrace as a national identity. China cannot compete with the United States economically as long as we hold true to the tenets of free enterprise and democracy. Chinese leadership understands their fragility. It is their national intention to defeat us economically. Only in a new world order dominated by communism can their culture survive.
A free people, freely making choices for themselves and their families inside the lanes and guidelines of constitutional rights, rule of law, and due process, will always outperform, in imagination and productivity, those people restrained by totalitarianism. The Chinese leadership knows this inherently.
Racism, economic equality and universal gender respect in our culture must be addressed. America is not yet finished. No one should ever be expected to wait on righteousness. However, our nation is under all-out attack. Defeat will render a new world order resulting in the antithesis of all that we hold paramount in purpose. The three points of the British societal plan for defense in war are critical for America today.
Think and contribute to the debate on priorities, sacrifice and purpose. Real risk must be measured against a strategic plan. Americans have always been willing to sacrifice when they understood the cause at stake. Our children must be educated. Their academic careers cannot be postponed. Businesses must be allowed to function, at least to the minimum level of economic survivability. Hospitals must be prioritized for resources to achieve maximum capacity management. And rule of law must be enforced in all cities. Otherwise, we will lose our democracy. And in all of this, we must protect the most vulnerable among us and support anyone’s right to isolate for the sake of their health.
In the greatness of America is the greatness of service to each other. We have but to commit to a common purpose of liberty and freedom, not only for ourselves but for the world.
America’s beacon is the world’s light. Without the hope of freedom, the world will fall for a thousand years into the darkness of totalitarianism.
