Volume 5, Issue 27
This history-changing ideal introduced by the establishment of the United States of America encompassed that freedom and individual liberty were paramount to government authority. The Declaration of Independence recognized as a formality that all men are created equal. Rights of liberty are ordained by God. The result of this new creed was that birth is not destiny. An opportunity is available to all by birth, not privilege. The new government of the United States was seen in Europe as an interesting experiment, doomed to failure.
For the next 100 years, the experiment proved to be the great hope, not only of immigrants seeking escape from oppression but Americans seeking unlimited opportunity through their own desires and energies of a pursuit of happiness. Manifest destiny, land runs, states being formed for the purpose of serving cities, rather than cities serving states, continued the great experiment.
Now in 2017 world governments still struggle mightily with the concept of freedom and how much to control human endeavor. This Fourth of July, don't think of our experiment of freedom personified simply as a local, geographical, cultural anomaly.
It is not.
This struggle, this eternal enigma, this conflict between government control and individual rights has been at the forefront of current events since the beginning of time. In 1776 no other country in the world placed a priority on freedom ahead of government dictates. In 2017 only the United States continues to promote and protect freedom, liberty, and family authority as the primary pillars of society. A few nation-states respect freedom, but none place the priority individual rights over government rights. Only the United States of America professes that government exists to serve the people.
As American citizens, we are blessed to live in this country. For a blessing to be fully realized it must be protected, respected, and given back for the greater good of all.
In 1776, the United States was the world’s great promise. In 2017, we are the world’s last great hope. Sometime on the Fourth of July, take a moment and remember a silent salutation to the creator and thank him for blessing us with unalienable rights in a country that manifests the truth of freedom.
Our commitment to protect individual liberty for the benefit of the world and to maintain these inalienable principles for the generation must be our vow.
